Spring is Here!!

Well it looks like we're really into Spring. Here in the NYC area it has been very much needed. Me, personally it can't come at a better time. Not only for the nicer weather, but to have a new beginning.

This year so far has been like no other in that I've been doing a lot of forward moving. This time with a twist. I have been actively pushing through my fears and putting one foot in front of the other. This is huge for me and I've decided to be silent no more.

Last summer, after going through some health breakthroughs and losing some important people in my life I made a conscious decision to turn a new corner. I came to the realization that the same street I was going down had me falling into the same pothole. With that I said I would make a point to tell those who are important to me or who made a contribution to my life how significant it actually was. Whether it was big or small.

I am still working through some things. I have a ways to go. I am putting one foot in front of the other. They might me small but at least I'm going ahead and not behind.

The Beginning of the End/ A New Beginning Pt 1

I am a music educator and up until recently I had loved my job.  I mean really loved. Now, it's just a place that I go because I must in order to pay the bills. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching music and singing and more importantly I LOVE teaching those who are genuinely interested in learning. Therein lies the problem.

When I began teaching in the public school system in 1999, I couldn't have landed a better job.  At the time, I was doing temporary work and singing everywhere that I possibly could.  I had never been interested in teaching even though my mother had wanted me to pursue it but I guess I was fated to try my hand at it so I got the call.  Literally, got a call.

I was told that a school needed a teacher under the initiative of Project Arts and so I was off.  I was split between two schools and though it was the hardest thing I had ever done at that time, I was in love.  All day I got to do music any way I wanted and got to share it!

As time went on things changed.

More and more testing came into play and less and less emphasis on creating a whole child. They got rid of Project Arts and slowly started to back off the programs.

I was fortunate for a while because my principal was a strong advocate for the arts and arts programs. She always made sure the children were exposed and she supported us cultivating whatever their interests were.

CBoogieSings is back

Ok guys I'm back!  I had started this whole thing on Blogger what seems like a million years ago and I could never quite get the hang of it.  So here I am again but this time with a plan.

This blog will be part ramblings, part diary, part rants about anything and whatever just comes into my mixed up head. I always have a lot on my mind so if I can keep this up I should have a bunch of material to discuss.

I'm mostly filled with music so most of my postings will have a musical feel though I can't promise you that it won't go all the way to the left. The gist is that I'm giving the world an inside of me. Raggedy and all.

Let's go!
